Electronics and Communication Engineering

Introduction

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering provides state- of- the- art facilities, well equipped laboratories, and faculties with diverse and extensive background in academics and industry to meet present requirements and to motivate and encourage for future aspirations for undergraduate and post graduate engineering students in the discipline of Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Well lit and ventilated classrooms and lecture theaters have seating capacity of more than eighty students each. The blackboards with dust free chalks provide for classic chalk- and- talk lecture approach, and ceiling mounted multimedia overhead projectors with foldable screen, add to the latest technologies available for the students including for presentations by the students themselves for their project and seminar requirements. Additional availability of Conference room/ Seminar Hall helps organize guest lecturers with latest audio and video technology equipments to help address more than two hundred students at a time.

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering envisions the upliftment of students through an effective teaching learning process and makes them competent globally with sound technical, interpersonal, analytical, managerial skills and professional ethics.

  • To enable students to develop skills to solve complex technological problems of current times and also provide a framework for promoting collaborative and multidisciplinary activities.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) :

  • To prepare graduates to design ,develop and analyze Electronics &Communication circuits and systems using appropriate theory, tools and processes
  • To prepare graduates to pursue higher education in Engineering or other professional fields and thereby practice lifelong learning &research with social commitments.
  • To train the students so that they can effectively perform the duties assigned to them as team leaders or project managers in the industry/organization.
  • To provide the best facility, infrastructure, and environment to its students, researchers and faculty members, creating an ambience conducive for excellence in technical education and research.

Achievements of EC/EI department

  • Workshop on Microcontroller and embedded system on 7th Nov 2015.
  • Two months training program VHDL and Microcontroller by.
  • Value addition course on Arduino and Robotics for students of B.Tech. 3rd Year from Feb 2017 to March 2017.

LABS

The well equipped laboratories include Antenna and Microwave Laboratory with Reflex Klystrons and Gunn Diode equipped microwave benches with various antennas, Fiber Optic laboratory dedicated for work on Fiber Optic Communication equipments, separate laboratories one each for Digital Communication and Analog Communication providing several test benches and trainer kits including for experiments in fundamentals of communication like Double Side Band Suppressed Carrier Modulation, Frequency Modulation, Phase Modulation including respective receiver circuits, and PCM Coding and Multiplexing, Delta Modulation, ASK, PSK and FSK carrier modulations etc. Additional laboratories provide for Basic Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Electromechanical Measurement and Instrumentation Laboratory, Control Laboratory etc. There iare specific dedicated laboratories for Microprocessor, Project Work by Students and PCB and Electronic Design laboratory to help students gain hands on experience in these techniques.


COMMUNICATION LAB

The goal of the communication laboratory is to allow the students to perform experiments that demonstrate the theory of signals and communication systems that are discussed in course, This Lab introduce some of the electronic blocks that make up communication systems (which may not be discussed in the lecture course because of time limitations) . This lab allows to familiarize the students with proper laboratory procedure, including precise recordkeeping, logical troubleshooting, safety, and learning about the capabilities and limitations of equipment.

In laboratory experiments to accompany the course “Analog and Digital Communications Engineering”, The Lab contains several experiments, some on basic and general background, some on analog modulation, and some on digital modulation. The experiments cover introduction to the laboratory equipment, simulation of communication systems using MATLAB, time- and frequency-domain representation of signals, and processing of speech signals. The analog modulation part covers the generation and detection of Double-Side Band Suppressed Carrier (DSBSC) modulation, Double-Side Band With Carrier (also known as AM) modulation, Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM), and Frequency Modulation. The digital modulation experiments include PCM encoding and decoding, line codes and digital carrier modulation (ASK and FSK). The student takes brief idea of communication engineering.


DIGITAL LAB

The lab is fully equipped with trainer kits, test equipments and other support accessories to meet all the requirements of the university curriculum for undergraduate degree and has many more equipments to widen horizons of knowledge for the students. RS-, JK-, D- and T- Flip Flops, bread boards and components for component level implementations, multiplexer/ demultiplexer, shift registers, Half- and Full- adder, addition/ subtraction circuit, synchronous counters, asynchronous counters, oscilloscopes, multi- meters and function generators are all available to get several groups of students to undertake experiments at same time.


INTEGRATED CIRCUIT LAB

IC lab is catering to the needs of facilities in electronics field by training its students to make valuable contribution. This lab is used by B. tech students. It helps students to enhance their knowledge about various electronics equipments both passive as well as active. In analog integrated lab, designing of various filters, comparators, log antilog amplifiers and peak detector circuits is done using operational amplifier IC. This lab is very essential for students to learn theoretical concept by designing circuits practically. The objective of this lab is to prepare its students with good foundation in electronics field so that they become graduate and effective system engineers.


ANTENNA & MICROWAVE LAB

Microwave and Fiber optics Lab is used by B.Tech students to enhance their skills in Microwave Communication field. It consists of various microwave benches having Klystron and Gunn diode as microwave sources. By using these benches we can find out various characteristics of microwave devices like couplers, tees, circulators, isolators etc. This lab also includes experiments of optical fiber communication. By using the Trainers, we can develop analog and digital communication link and also used for verification of multiplexing and demultiplexing of signals The objective of the lab is to prepare students with a good foundation in communication field so that they become graduate and effective system engineers.


ELECTRONICS & PCB LAB

Electronics and PCB lab is an important part of important part of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Electronics have an exponentially growing influencing our lives. Most of the things used by an individual in day to day life include the contribution of electronics to some extend. . Printed circuit boards (PCB)’s have definitely contributed in a significant manner as a means of interconnection of various electronic components. The field of PCB designing is a mutual contribution of wide range of various other fields. For example, the knowledge of mechanics, chemistry and electronics design, production and process management is an essential need for the construction of any particular PCB. The PCB is widely used in fabrication of electronics as well as electrical circuits since they provide a base for the connections amongst various components used in that particular circuit. The PCB based circuits are highly reliable as they consist of fewer interconnection wires. The testing and repairing of components are a lot easier in these (PCB based) circuits. Printed circuit boards are dielectric substrates with metallic circuitry photo chemically formed upon that substrate. PCB lab is an interesting lab because student feel and work as an expert engineer in doing experiment in this lab.


MICROPROCESSOR LAB

This lab is fully equipped with several trainer kits on 8085 and 8086 microprocessors. Several well written and explained charts on the walls illustrate the instruction sets and other details of the microprocessor circuits. An extensive set of peripherals are available for students to practice and achieve confident understanding of interfacing of these with the microprocessors. Additional blocks are available to achieve generation of various different waveforms. Serial port communications from the microprocessors can be demonstrated and explained. Microprocessor lab is catering to the needs of facilities in electronics field by training its students to make valuable contribution. This lab is used by B. tech second year students of different branches like Electrical & Electronics, Computer Science etc and also used B.Tech third year Electronics and Communication branch.. The students undergo training on the programming and also interfacing different microprocessors and micro-controllers. The facilities in the lab are 8085, 8086, 8051 trainer kits.

The department has its own departmental library having books on almost all subjects related to Electronics and Communication Engineering including data books and handbooks for ready reference by the faculty and the students. More than three hundred titles are available for reference by the faculty and the students in this departmental library, and there are several hundred more in institute library.

The department organizes workshops, seminars and industrial visits from time to time to help students stay updated with the latest in technology and industry. A few seminars organized by the department in recent past include a three day workshop by National Power Training Institute, one day workshop on 'Emerging Technologies in Wireless and Their Role in Internet of Things', Guest Lecture by Mr. R K Garg, Director Prasar Bharti, Broadcasting Corporation of India etc. A few industrial visits organized by the department in the recent past include industrial visit to High Poer Transmitter, Prasar Bharti at Kondli, Advanced Level Telecommunication Training Centre at Ghaziabad etc.
